Cranberry Sauce

I can still remember Thanksgiving. My mother would wake up the morning of and stand on the scale in our kitchen, then stand on it once again holding this huge turkey in her hands. She’d tell us that it was the easiest way to figure out how many hours she’d have to cook it for. Years later I still remember the day long festivities that would lead-up to Thanksgiving dinner. And especially the one time each year when we’d get to taste my mother’s homemade cranberry sauce. Today, I share with you this simple recipe. As you enjoy it with your family remember that, albeit simple, it will create a lifetime of memories for your family too!

Here’s what you’d need:

 - 1 cup of sugar (about 200g)
 - 1 cup of water (about 200 to 250 mL)
 - 4 cups of cranberries (you can use fresh or frozen)

Making the sauce:

1. Wash your cranberries first. Then, put water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil (until the sugar melts). Add you cranberries and then bring it to a boil once again. Reduce the heat, and let everything simmer until the cranberries burst open.

2. Some people like to add other ingredients but we’re old fashioned and stick to just the pure sauce. After your cranberries have burst you can remove from heat and let it cool at room temperature. After that, place it in the fridge to chill. This should thicken it up nicely and resemble the stuff you’d buy in a can.

How something so simple to make can bring a lifetime of warm memories!
